Paula begins each treatment with reiki. Reiki is a subtle form of hands on healing that releases blocks and restores connections within the energy field, or matrix. Reiki is also a spiritual practice that connects you with source.
Reiki was originally developed in the 1920s by Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar, and has since traveled the world. See the resources section for recommended books and sites to learn more. The best way to learn about reiki, though, is to experience it yourself.
Anyone can learn to practice reiki. Paula is a reiki master/teacher in the Usui tradition and offers training in all three levels.
When you're matched up with the right therapist, a massage feels wonderfully nurturing and can straighten your whole outlook on life, along with your posture. What would the world be like if we all could receive this gift once a week?
Paula applies lavender lotion with an experienced touch. The pressures varies from light to firm, honoring your body's cues and your verbal feedback. When combined with reiki, the massage can be deep without being painful.
Life expresses itself through motion. The goal of energy-centered bodywork is to identify where movement is restricted and gently help restore the body's natural rhythms.
Craniosacral therapy works with restrictions in the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord as well as the attached bones - including the skull, face and mouth, and the tailbone area, or sacrum. Very light pressure, about the weight of a nickel, is applied at specific areas of the head and spine. The work is subtle. The results profound.
Visceral Mobilization (VM) was developed by French Osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral. It is a gentle hands-on therapy that works through the body's visceral system (the heart, liver, intestines and other internal organs). VM restores the normal mobility and motion in the body's organs after it has suffered trauma - perhaps due to an accident, fall or surgery.
In addition to being deeply relaxing, VM can ease chronic back and joint pain, aid digestion, and increase range of motion.
Prepare for Surgery is an evidence-based, mind-body technique that creates calm before surgery or other stressful procedures, such as chemotherapy or radiation treatments. It is associated with less post-operative pain, faster recovery and a stronger immune system. Trained by Peggy Huddleston, the originator of this method, Paula recommends a session at least a week prior to surgery.
