Freedom is the Seed of Life

I saw this graphic on facebook the other day and my heart sank.

This graphic, known as the Seed of Life geometry, portrays a great falsehood. It implies that capitalism is the root of many evils. Considered sacred because it is thought to be the building block of all life, this pattern calls to us on a deep level. It evokes a sense of beauty, symmetry and unfolding. That’s why I want to challenge its misappropriation.

The simplest definition of capitalism is the free exchange of goods and services among individuals and businesses. The key word is FREE. The idea that people can be free to work, create, trade, cooperate, and compete in the marketplace with the fruits of their labor is at the very heart of the American dream. It is in the hearts of the many people who want to come to the U.S.

Capitalism is not to blame for our societal ills. There are many other places to look for where power has been corrupted- by political leaders and special interests. As a nation, we can do better, but only if we safeguard our core principles.

So I created my own Seed of Life pattern that reflects a more truthful and hopeful perspective. (I wished I could animate this, but alas, my skills are not up to it.)

The circle, or seed, represents the beginning that has no end. This grows into two, called the Vesica Piscsis , also known as the birth portal.

Freedom leads to growth, cooperation, creativity…

And that leads to personal responsibility and abundance

And we complete the pattern with the spirit of generosity.

We can dream a better future when we honor and protect each person’s innate right to freedom.
